September Farm Report 2016

Can you believe it's almost Hallowe'en? Where did this year go?? Actually we can't wait until it finishes after this crude and demeaning election season that seems to have toxified the whole year.

In our beautiful corner of the world and in our tiny business we are doing well, and we hope you are also. We would like to remind you that we are happy to ship our farmstead canned products as you or your friends and any time of year, including now over the holiday season. We've attached an updated availability list and you may give us a call or email if you'd like to order.

Take care. Enjoy the holidays and hang on for the ride into the coming year.

No rain and average temps.

All markets were up and down…
…Over all Clement market was good.
Boonville market was excellent except for Fair weekend.
Mendocino market was overall very good.
On-farm sales were good.

Aquaponics: Sand beds working so far, growing good carrots/ lettuce/ strawberries. Tomatoes doing better. Parsnips did well in rock beds. Chives and peppers excellent. Lettuce self-reseeded outdoors. Greenhouse eggplant did poorly.
N & S went on vacation! One week in Sierra climbing 6 miles to 12,600’ at Italy Pass. Camped at Granite Park 3 days.
Made decision…rented Guest House to teacher at HS. Slaughter/butcher date for pigs is Nov 15th. They’ll be 300+ lbs by then. Our choices are so limited and there is so much demand that all USDA slaughter/ butcher facilities book over a month in advance. There are only 3 choices near to us, the closest being 2 and some hours away, round trip. Eating a lot of delicious venison. Solar dispute continues.
